Yes, the old guard like John Major and Dame Judi have cause to be alarmed. But they are 500+ years too late. Obviously these folk realize the rising born-digital generations who have been consuming films or series like Marie Antoinette, The Duchess, The Empress, The Serpent Queen, The Other Boleyn Girl, Reign, Medici, The Tudors, Versailles and The Crown have also grown up in a world of fake news, where even their grandparents are busy shopping online for truths and facts they like best.
So all of a sudden, what Shakespeare and the dramatic arts have been doing for centuries is being recognized by the old guard for what it is-- and always was: a form of fake news that warps people's understanding of history and makes certain individuals into villains or heroes when perhaps they were not. In that respect, the Crown is likely no more distorted than hundreds of dramatic portrayals of royalty from the days of Shakespeare to every play, film and series of the present time.
In the first place, this topic isn't about "other series" you need to deflect and whitewash "The Crown" with. No one had issues and possible legal ones with any of those series. In the second place, if you can't distinguish between a Shakespeare and hack writers for soap opera series people will forget in a few years then I'm afraid I can't help you either.
