I guess the last British monarch to die of "old age" was presumably Queen Victoria. Was curious to see if that was recorded on her death certificate back in 1901 but haven't been able so far to find a copy of it online. Back then it was referred to as "senility" which was what was recorded on the death certificates of quite a few of my mother's Scottish relatives even though most of them were only in their late 70s (presumably considered a very advanced age at that time. This would be in the 1940s/50s). By contrast my mother, who lived to be 93, had quite a few causes listed on her death certificate. Wonder if recourse to the phrases "old age" or "senility" as causes of death in the elderly is more common in Scotland than it is in England or other parts of the UK?
