Always assumed that the coffins were laid side by side and that the vault was only big enough for four. Interesting detail that the consorts are placed above the sovereigns no matter in which order they died (George VI before Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip before Elizabeth II).
there is a article on Instagram of the George VI memorial chapel with the vault. It shows how the coffins are stacked on top of each other with a shelf between the two. It show how Princess Margaret's ashes are stowed. The article mentioned that there is room for Charles III and Queen Camilla. Very interesting. George VI is on the bottom with Queen Mother Elizabeth's coffin placed above him. In the next row Queen Elizabeth II is on the bottom with Prince Philip's coffin above hers.
Have often read that in the Vault in George VI. memorial Chapel is space for 6 people.
But after now seeing pics if the engraved stone i doubt it as with the GArter Star in the center there is no space on it to add more names
The answer is, no. There has been nothing announced regarding this.
