The optics are terrible and they were quick to make clear Charles won’t be conducting business that way anymore. As to whether it was all above board, that would need to be established by independent investigation. Mobsters, oligarchs and princes from the gulf are known to regularly do business that way, which is all the more reason for Britain’s future monarch not to partake in such dealings. Honest transactions leave a money trail. Using bags of cash is the standard method to eliminate all evidence of nefarious transactions. The emeritus King of Spain has already shown us just how bad the judgement of aging arrogant princes can get. The royal teflon coating has protected Charles well over the years, but he needs to maintain the highest standards if the monarchy is to last well beyond the current reign.
