As Trent pointed out, AEW tries to balance silliness with serious, athletic wrestling. One match might be over-the-top goofy with a lot of spots, no-sells, and overly choreographed gimmicks, but then the next match might be a bloody, back-alley brawl. It feels like they can't decide what they want to be, and by trying to be both things, they come across as looking way too theatrical and lacking any seriousness.
