I think it's more of a generational thing, younger people would be more taken aback at a line like that, and not really get the context of it. It doesn't play well in a vacuum in 2019, but on the show itself it was actually a throw away nothing cliche' Cornette line. I think the NWA overacted, and has a lot of the blame, but they're an Internet product right now, who wants to be on real TV, and they probably don't want or need distractions like this. Meltzer said, and I agree with this, that Cornette has enemies, and when you have enemies, they will jump on something like this when it comes along. I think Cornette's days of working on a regular basis for any wrestling company are done after this easily avoidable fiasco. He doesn't want or need the aggravation, and I can't see any major, or wanna be major, companies taking a chance on him anymore.
