Last Saturday CWF superfan Barry Rose and former WCW/TNA Wrestling ring announcer David Penzer held their 5th CWF Legends Fest. This event was a mix of past and present stars. The roster read like this: WWE HOF member Ricky "the Dragon" Steamboat, WWE HOF member "Living Legend" Larry Zybszko, WWE HOF member "Cowboy" Bob Orton Jr, CWF legends Bob Roop, Bob Cook, Rip Oliver, Rick "the Gladiator" Hunter, Al Perez, Barry Horowitz, Scott Casey, the Cuban Assassin & Ricky Santana, referee/manager Bill Alphonso plus current stars Michael Patrick & Leo Brien AKA The Dirty Blondes, Francisco Ciatso & Stormie Lee along with vendors like Crowbar Press to name a few.
I am sure you are reading this and thinking, "How's this from other fan festivals?" Barry and Dave limit the tickets to 200 people. I can attest to this fact as I was the assistant to Mr. Zybszko for the afternoon. The low cap on attendees allowed for WAY more than the :30 seconds other festivals allow an autograph or photo seeker. The day actually began with a screening of the wonderful documentary JOURNEYMAN, which chronicles being on the road with Ciatso and Lee. That was followed with a Ultra & Mega ticket holder Q&A with Mr. Zybszko that lasted about an hour. Then it was festival time until about 5pm. There was a CWF HOF induction of Mr. Matsuda presented to his daughter Stephanie, followed a catered meal with Mr. Steamboat forthe Ultra & Mega ticket holders. The last event was a Q&A with Mr. Roop & Mr. Orton which I am told was highly entertaining.
If you attended any of the previous four or just this one, you are appreciated by this author. The history created by these legends should never be forgotten. My thanks to Mr. Rose & Penzer for their hospitality and the honor of sitting with the "Living Legend" for an afternoon. From the talk afterwards, there will be a 6th event possibly in the early fall. Join them on Facebook by searching for CWF Legends Fanfest for further info and photos from the event.
