With the Western teams dominating the Canadian Championships this past year I guess we shall wait and see what happens with the teams next year. Revisit this and if the teams are majority western players I'll say this time I was wrong. If you look back in history for the western part of Canada to be well represented on this team it took the Oilmen from Alberta to win the men's Canadians. |
Also my statement didn't say I have players waiting in the closet for their turn? But if you truly want a few names of players who are top tier in Canada from the West here you go: Evan Lacoursiere, Brenden Miller, Devren Dear, Shawn Carrick, Garret Feige, Griffen Bullock, Ty Cutknife, Connor Prentice, Kiefer Jackson all guys that could definitely deserve at least a look and I know I'm missing a bunch those are just some examples. I wont comment on the ladies side as I would be wrong cause I truly don't follow those teams enough.
My point is the way the team is picked isn't done fairly for the entire country, its a couple guys who pick the team then they may listen to a couple others they bounce ideas off. There have been many players from the East and West over the years who have definitely deserved a shot at this but with no process to determine the team that involves any type of player camps or tryout then many many players are left out. Maybe try things differently and hold open tryouts in the East and West the players who truly want to be on or even considered for these teams would attend. Charge a small fee for the tryout and use the profit to help get the teams to the events. Or get the bat manufactures/sponsors together and allow them to submit picks. Poll the coaches from the Canadian Championships after the event to submit 2-3 names from each team etc etc. There are many different ways to look at it.
