Some Questions For The Podcast Listeners

I currently help create the topics/questions with DW for the Hit and Sit podcast and was hoping for some feedback on the show format.

1. Would going more in depth on certain topics create better content? An example being the classification topic we had in a prior show talking about Proton, Nitro Circus, Anarchy, and Rock Run. We somewhat just went around the room and everyone said if they would bump the teams or not.

Would it have been better if we looked more closely at say Protons teams roster points, players roster history to see how many guys have played major prior to this year(basically how many "move ups"), current team and player stats etc, then truly discussed/debated what class they should be?

2. Sticking with a similar theme of being able to go more in depth, would it sometimes be better to just have David host and then one or two panelist? We can use this week's show as an example for the style of content this could provide. On this week's show there will be a segment about BP/practice where each panelist will get asked a different question.

Would it be better to just have someone like Magnum on for an episode to really go over what he does at BP? What his approach is, what swings he works on etc. Possibly Magnum and another well known top level hitter? Or a guy like Mooch to talk all things pitching, and basically give him an episode to really educate us all.

Maybe softball isn't ready to go this deep yet and it is just wishful thinking on my part. I truly believe though that really letting these guys expand on certain things will create great content, and some good back and forth debate amongst high IQ softball people would be a lot of fun. Please let me know what you guys think.

To me, it seems that you're wanting this podcast to veer more in the informational/educational direction rather than its current entertainment direction. I, personally, really enjoy the entertainment aspect of Joel's jokes, Magnum's zoom backgrounds, etc.

I do think it would be cool to learn more about how the pros approach the game (BP, pitching, non-conference tournament playing), but I think you'd lose viewers if it was one player going into a teaching monologue.

I am all for those topics in the off season. Right now everything should be geared towards what is happening in the game right now each week.

Doing a “what do you do in BP” type of show with various players will quickly fill you with the same, repetitive answer of players saying that they work their way around the field practicing hitting holes and gaps, and ending the session with a home run derby. A few Ken Van Bogaert videos will show you that that’s what most Conference guys do. Another YouTube channel just did a show with Brandon Traylor and that’s exactly what they wound up doing.

From a content perspective, I think you’d get a wider variety of answers by asking players about their pregame routines/superstitions/recovery programs. Something where every answer isn’t going to be about the same. The answers are very limited to keep it tied to BP because there’s a finite number of areas to work on hitting a ball. Heck, even doing a live version of DW’s Free Agent questionnaire would be interesting since it’s more open ended and players usually only type one or two sentences in the written form. Personally, I love the panel style of the show where the previous weekend is recapped and the upcoming tournament is discussed. Excited to see how the show evolves.

I would love to see you get Andy Purcell and Brett Helmer together for a podcast. The stories align with the rivalry and friendship would be awesome to hear.

Would also like to see you get Andrew Collins sometime. Maybe Hank Garris or Todd Martin, somebody off the old LongHaul Trucking/Team TPS team

I think some of you are missing the idea a little bit. The show isn't technically geared towards being entertaining, that comes with the personalities put on there. So I don't think there would be any less jokes going on, these guys will still be themselves.

The plan is always to go for different answers so guys are not repeating each other, which has been one of my concerns for the current show. And even when there is differences in answers, there is never any debate or discussion about it. Just onto the next.

Also just for reference point, that Traylor video you mentioned is doing 4x-6x the amount of views our videos do, and was part of my reasoning for putting this post up.

It was a good video and a good idea, I’m just saying that if you did that with 5-6 other players they would likely all have the same or very similar routines. Not knocking the idea itself, it’s just not very viable long term unless you did a Q&A + BP session with them

I think the format that you have now is pretty cool. It also works well for what it is. There are a lot of other videos out there that are just all similar fashion. And if you want more views you need to push it on social media more. Get it out there on more platforms.

I think they need to get a host that has conference experience not some E player that thinks he can play at the conference level. Find a guy or gal that’s been there done that, someone that can at least make contact with a slowpitch softball. It’s hard to take this siteman guy serious when he’s done nothing for the game.

He is a professional host who also just happens to sponsor a conference team and plays.

Been a great fit on a diverse panel.

Siteman's job is to direct and drive the convo, as well as keep Joel (love this guy) and others on track when they derail. He's done a great job.

David does exactly what the host should do. I don't know if you listen to the show, but David only occasionally jumps in with his opinion. When he does, it's usually to offer a different perspective or add a twist to the conversation. If you think he is really trying to insert himself into the discussion or pretend that he's a AA or Major player, then you aren't watching the show at all.

Also, how many guys "do something for the game" in half of a season?

Thanks for hosting, David, and continue to do what you do on and off the field.

There are some Stl area guys butt hurt Siteman didn't recruit them. They spend every weekend beating up on the local C, D, and E teams and think that means they can compete at the conference level.

I agree DW, he keeps the show in flow and does a good job with the topics and keeps Joel on track even though he goes on a 5 minute rant on occasion lol.. Magnum and Mooch along with Josh do a good job with their opinions of questions asked. It’s a hit and I look forward to it every week. Keep it up fellas!

We already have our group of show panelists.

We will try to work in someone from the winning teams each show as well.

Maybe in the offseason we can have the most hated people in softball all on one show.
