Restitched balls

How does a team get caught with restitched balls playing USSSA and only get 6 weeks suspension. It’s laughable. Yet people are pounding their chests about the 6 week vacation.

Not for you to determine what’s an appropriate suspension. That’s for directors so u less your a director just enjoy the view from the sideline or go take classes and volunteer your time to become one if you want to make a change. Don’t come on here cause your not gonna make a change.

He also froze the team - all players suspended 6 weeks and the team must re-sanction and all points earned are lost.

From the pic floating around FB the one ball had "RTS" on the cover. Allegedly it was a top 5 C team in the country.

Restitching a cover and regluing it with any accuracy is incredibly hard to do. Getting a fake stamp or changing the ball stamping would be the easiest route.

in a dozen years of selling balls I always said I'd supply the balls and cash is someone could show me an accurate restitch on a poly core ball, its yet to be done.

Before I logged off social media, there were plenty of restiched balls being sold, along with repainted/shaved/rolled bats. It's not much of a secret if you know where to look.

The secret would be how its done without damaging the softball cover and showing it was tampered with. The vast majority of ball claiming to be restitched are not, and are just harder balls with a different cover on them. Covers are so tight and tear so easy. The guys buying them are being duped.

I am pretty confused by this whole thing. Aren't gold dot extreme's super hard to begin with? Were they putting stadiums underneath the cover? Or were they making the opposing team hit a softer ball?

I dont know what tipped them off in this case. I do know that the director has been going hard after cheaters. He has been testing bats and sanding off the USSSA stamps if they fail.

Joe, care to rescind your comments? Like I said, you can find anything online to help cheat. There are FB pages with thousands of members. Repainted senior bats that look exactly like ussssa bats and these restitched balls are pricey to buy, but they're out there. It's still possible to learn something new everyday.

I actually will find it interesting if the director jumped the gun and the balls are legal. Defamation can be a costly experience.

Sometimes when cores are made they come out too hard or too soft to make spec. Sanctioned balls with stamps will only be balls within the tolerance range. The Chinese factories will sell the bad cores for anything they can get. This is where your non sanctioned balls and outlaw balls come from. Very often (read 98%) of the time the ball has not been recovered at all, but was too hard and illegal from the start. That is not a restitch. Most restitch attempts are very easy for a seasoned pitcher or umpire to spot, because doing it right is incredibly hard. If you got caught, your ball was not a quality restitch. The fact that these people got caught further backs up my point, that it’s really hard to get away with.
If you ever want to check a ball, take two or 3 of them, hold them out at arms length and drop onto concrete. Balls that are the same spec will bounce around the same height, a harder ball will rebound higher.

Funny how many focus on the suspension and not that this is going on?

Or how a small TEXAS TD is cleaning the game up; this should sop from the top and not from below;he is making a BIG NAME for himself in TEXAS (Eric Jason Torres) and they are hosting the Senior Worlds this year.

go to FB...the director is Eric Jason Torres (SOG) and he put the team that was suspended on his site, and pictures of the balls.

eliminating the fake ball advantage is easy… each team brings three balls to the coin toss and the six balls have no team names written on to them… the ump pulls out whatever ball he grabs to start the gas and blindly pulls any other ball out of a bucket when the game needs one..

At the end of the game the two teams split the balls up and if there is an odd number… the winning team gets the extra ball.

What I really admire is this guy is sandi g off the usssa license stamp from bats that fail compression… that is something Stro and whoever else his control over the conference should have been doing since they set a min. compression number

Torres is a convicted felon (domestic violence, among others.) USSSA by-Laws say a convicted felon cannot be a director. Ask Stro or Junior or Wegman for an answer to this. Blatantly breaking their own by-laws and this is what you get.
