Does anyone remember the big argument last year about the play we’re the outfielder caught the ball and doubled up the runner at first. But the girl who tagged up at third scored before the out at second. Can’t remember the teams but they had big argument on the field and stro had to come out and they scored the run. Saying it wasn’t a force play. Well the same play just happened in the Clemson and fl state softball game. They counted the run. So for the umps and stro they got it right. For all you people who said it was a force play and the run shouldn’t count was wrong. Crazy how that just happened.

I remember that. I thought most said that the run should count. As it should. I thought wegs was the one that scored on that play

It’s ruled a timing play as opposed to a force play.

As one said it is a timing play.There is no force the runner on 1st wasn't "forced" to go anywhere. Once the catch was made there is no force for the runner to leave 1st.

Types a force out snd being forced out! Know the difference was a double play to end the inning run crossing doesn’t matter!

Once the batter runner has been put out, which happened when the fly ball was caught, there is no force, ever. If nobody saw Nick leave early, is he FORCED to go back and retouch first??? nope. Its a timing play and anything scoring prior to the APPEAL counts. The throw to first appears to be a force but all your doing is a live ball appeal. Appeal not force.

The tag on him and now step on the base you’re correct if they get him at the bag by way of force out you’re wrong

You didn’t read. If the batter FLIES out, is Nick FORCED to return to first??? It’s all good, thry got it right and it’s still tight. Timing play, not a force.

Still think this is the dumbest rule in baseball/softball. You are absolutely forced to go back and tag up in order to advance. Should be considered a force play. But the rule is the run counts.

If the runner waits until the ball is touched, he is not forced to go to second base. The runner is not forced to go to the next base unless hit on ground. I don’t agree that it is the dumbest rule

He is forced to go back to his previous base. It is the only non force out that you don't have to tag the runner. Just the base.

I don’t fully agree. Missing a base can be a “non force out” and the player doesn’t need to be tagged. Defense can just touch the bag on the appeal.

Good call. Still the rule only rewards the offense for terrible baserunning. The runner is forced to return to his bag.

If there is no appeal, he obviously gets to stay on base he obtained even though he did not wait until the ball was touched.

Forced to return to first if he wants to get or move to another base lol wtf! Does the batter need to run out of the box on a batted ball? NO! But he does if he wants to not be put out at first
