my solution to better the game

The ball and bat combo is definitely the problem. If they played all the games on 300-325 foot fences and used a lesser ball the game would be way better. The pitchers would be in less danger number one. Plus it would be more like softball is supposed to be. I hate seeing ground ball base hits through the infield be an automatic double because the outfielders have to play so deep on the stadium fields. Use a ball that isnt so golf ball like and the game would be much better. More entertaining and would bring a lot more defense into the game. Homeruns would still be hit like they always have just not 450 foot opposite field accidents when people are trying to keep the ball in. Just my two cents

The zone at the major level has always been extremely small. The sweet spots on aluminum bats were much also very small though. The arc rules have also contributed as they've basically disallowed the high arc pitch which was a pitchers friend back in the early days of the game as was designed.

Plastic bats will always be the biggest problem.

I disagree on plastic bats being the problem. The Monsta and Anarchy FIB bats with 52/300s is a really fun game. Certainly much safer too.

He’s right the stadium game is stupid. Nerf the bats or balls and play on 300-325 fields. Or give them 12 defenders in the stadium so none of the fly balls land if they don’t clear the wall

no matter what you do mens softball will never EVER be enjoyable to watch. It's actually kind of like basketball or nascar watch the end to see how it turns out..

Now the women's major much better to watch. The women play with much more intensity. and you don't see the boo hoo'ing of you hit middle on me boo hooo.. It's an all around better game!

I enjoy watching all softball (men's, women's,
and fastpitch) and basketball and particularly nascar and indycar.

Not just the end. I enjoy seeing how they got there.

Like if I don't watch the entire ncaa basketball tournament then the championship doesn't mean anything to me because I don't know how they got there. Same with racing and softball.

Slow pitch could be great to watch because its moving action most of the time but tweaks need to be made for it to ever be marketable to the mainstream viewer.

Seems like a niche sport to me. It is a participation sport not a fan sport where the mainstream viewer cannot mentally get passed the slowness of the pitch so it doesn't seem like it could ever catch on.

I mean they did nerf the ball and bats. The Pro M ball is a terrible ball to hit and 240 bats. The strike zone is the only thing that needs changed about the conference. Walks are part of the game but when guys are taking an underhand pitches like they are its a problem.

People watch cornhole and poker on ESPN Dale, I don't think Major level softball is any harder on the eyes.

My brother works for the ACL. The ACL owner spent 10's of thousands of dollars to get cornhole on ESPN. Finally after pouring money into it for years it started to get ratings and now advertising pays for the shows and ESPN actually comes to the ACL to fill time.

Awesome for them.

USA and USSSA did the same with the border battle and conference but conference was up against football and never got the ratings to stand on its own. I don't know that it ever could.

I've always said softball would have to be its own cable channel with college and pro women's fastpitch and slowpitch running 24/7 is the only way it could make it.

It all comes back to the slowness of the pitch. The mass of sports fans out there cannot get it out of their minds that the speed of the pitch is silly. And that is ok.

In terms of growing the game overall, I think we need to get rid of shorts and make pants mandatory at all levels like they do in the conference. Much cleaner look. Separates Beer League Billy with 4 DUIs, no job, and a few pending domestic violence charges from serious players competing in tournaments on the weekend. Beer league is automatically what any outsider pictures right away. Change the narrative, grow the game. Start small with pants.

Personally, I can watch softball anytime but I’ve always said it would be fun to watch the major-level players play with wooden softball bats on 300-foot fields.

Baseball’s best players do it and I know our major players can too. That would be a fun game to watch. More emphasis on strategy, base-running, and defense. You could open it up again and make tournaments unlimited homers too.

I may just host a tournament here in Chattanooga and see how it goes.

Another issue I see is that if the Conference were to become a “TV sport”, the power shifts away from the sponsors to the advertisers.

I know when the conference championship was on TV the network had a real problem with an "if" game so teams had to agree on a one game championship.

Run rules are not really kosher for 2 hour windows either.

The real opportunity IMO would be a 2-3 hour long weekly program highlighting the tourney similar to your reports.

walks through the tourney, shows early round highlights, then maybe 2-3 condensed games in the program. Its never going to air live anyway so a live format when we are in the fantasy world is not the best place to start.
