Pitcher fading off the rubber

Why is no one talking about the fact that the ball Big John hit wasn’t really up the middle. It was toward the gap between 2nd base and the defender. The pitcher actually faded off the mound to cover that gap and was hit. Is that really a middle shot? If he stayed on the rubber the ball wouldn’t have hit him.

Well, because a ton of people are talking about that. A large number of the responses talk about Reck filling the hole not staying over the top. Did you actually read the threads?

I went middle for hits for years and always tried to drill the push side of the pitcher when the middle man was on the pull side.

I couldn’t care less where the pitcher was dropping to because the vast majority of times even if the pitcher filled that hole we hasn’t fielding my batter ball. But the middle man had a chance to field a ball over the rubber if he guessed right.

I played during the aluminum days so I can only assume it’s even harder to field the ball on the mount now. So the same would apply..Hit the ball as hard as you can away from the middle man… if the pitcher gets in the way… Sad but true…that’s part of the game…

Drill whatever side you don’t think the middle man is going to be on… It doesn’t matter where the pitcher ends up if you can hit a ball over 95 MPH

Sorry… I was just sharing the mindset of almost every guy that hits the ball hard in the Conference is thinking when they are going middle to stay in the park.

You DRILL the ball oppo. of the middle man… Pitcher…. who cares about the pitcher fielding…he only has a small chance to field the ball when it’s going to hit him above his ankles or maybe a foot of halo area close to his body so long as your exit speed is less then 95 mph.

It is just a fact… sorry you don’t understand

Yeah... literally everyone understands that you want to hit opposite of the middle man. This is not some new or ground breaking concept. You didn't come up with it. That's not the point that Retired was making, though. He was telling you that no one cares what you did, do, or say. And he's right. We don't need your redundant sHaRiNg ThE mInDsEt posts or anything else you vomit all over this board. Go find something else to do.

It was invented during his day. Around that time the majority of teams still played a 4 man outfield. A little less smart ass and a little more ears open goes along way. Be a student of the game not a know it all. A lot of teams back then were still hitting 400+ bombs with aluminum bats and same stadium ball.

Not gonna lie, I always skip past TM60’s posts. Nothing personal, I just normally can’t relate to his past stories, and hardly ever agree with him. But I never call him a name or tell him to shut up, or make some Taco Bell reference that absolutely nobody understands. I don’t see how it’s funny to do so when you’re afraid to post your own name.

Anyway, just keep scrolling guys. I know it’s a lot to ask of people with speed limit IQ’s, but we’ll get there one day, I hope.

All I was trying to say to the original poster on this thread was anyone hitting middle isn’t trying to hit a ball right at the pitcher (that’s normally how you get out). The hitter is MOSTLY trying to not hit the ball at the middle man.

In this example from last weekend… again…. it’s my belief the batter was way more worried about where the middle
man was and had very little care about where the pitcher would end up.

Hence… hit the ball as hard as you could low and away from the middle infielder. Which is exactly what the hitter did.

If the pitchers were more worried about getting hurt then trying to field the ball… they would fall in line with the middle man when they think the batters going for a stay in the park hit.
If they felt that way…they wouldn’t be top level pitchers.

I watched the video of that play and everything was done properly other then maybe the guy that hit it saying something about “sorry that got you” to the pitcher. thank heavens the ball hit where it was… if he got hit in the neck,chest or face… we would all be talking about crazy bats, balls and screens right now… you know… the conversation that ALL OF SOFTBALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN HAVING ALL THIS TIME TO BEGIN WITH.

Let’s face it… everything after the play ended was guys just mouthing off and if the Conference is going to allow guys to scream swear words all day long… nothing should happen if they swear in the heat of that battle… now threatening assault… that’s a different story.

To finish this off.. the game is WAY TOO DANGEROUS with todays equipment. Problem is… players have to either except that or not play BECAUSE lord knows the powers that be are not not used on it.

My answer would be Wood bats at BLD sized fields.. then again… that’s how I started playing.
