I'd be VERY hesitant to make that connection. If you look at overall softball participation #s, something was going to have to give. Softball can't support 3 major associations like 1990. |
Did the equipment affect numbers? slightly year over year, but the market was never going to be big enough to support all 3 this long anyway.
Now, what people ignore is that the 10% of softball die hards dictated the equipment, and literally drove out a lot of other recreational players. Is it better for the game, who is to say?
NSA, before they made the ball switch, was essentially irrelevant from an equipment sales standpoint. Only some regional players cared. ASA is still very relevant in the fastpitch realm and chose to pursue that over slowpitch.
