It is time for a "DW's Stupid Bets" update

Every few years I make a stupid bet that never comes to fruition. Currently I have a standing bet that a 140 pound player cannot hit an over the fence homer on a 300 foot fence in 10 pitches with a classic m ball and a usssa tested bat. Winner will get $100. No one has ever tried to win this bet in the 7 years it has been available. I actually think I could lose this bet at some point.

The 2nd bet I have is that a pro MLB player (current or retired) cannot get on base 7 out of 10 times against a Major team on a baseball field. Winner gets a $1,000 from me donated to the charity of their choice. No one has taken me up on this bet (and probably never will).

Recently I posted the Texas vs Maryland Challenge Cup semifinal game and someone named Anthony Conant posted a comment on the video saying "The sad truth is the best high school Texas and Maryland baseball teams will beat team Texas and team Maryland."

So my 3rd bet is that no high school team can beat Team Texas in a usssa slowpitch game. I will donate $1,000 to the high schools baseball teams program if the high school team wins the slowpitch game. I would prefer it to be a baseball field but would probably be good with any field.

All I want out of any of these bets is the video of whatever bet I am taken up on.

How many HS kids can hit a soft toss baseball 300 feet regularly? Not many, and that is what softball is all about, generating your own power.

This should come as no surprise to anyone that understand competitive slow pitch lol
I would venture to guess that 95% of people were humbled at some point their first year in the game with "how easy they THOUGHT it would be" vs reality... assuming they're actually playing competition of a decent level.

LMFAO haha. FACTS: I'm 138 lbs. have been most my life except college been playing this game 10+ years and unfortunately I have not hit a LEGIT homerun over a 300 foot fence and may I add I live in CO too. So this might be the 1 time I agree with DW LOL or just speaking for myself.

I don't know anybody who is 140 or under.

Isn't there some ex-mlb guys playing in the major level already, I'd think they would take this challenge up.

The bet was for a non softball player but the players in conference with MLB experience do not have a .700 onbase percentage on baseball fields vs major teams so that just shows how impossible it would be for a MLBer

The bet stemmed from people saying they were “tired of seeing 140 pounders boowhooping home runs”.

I like you don’t know of any 140 pound grown men, although I am sure there are a few, I don’t believe they are smashing homers, but you never know.

Who got the biggest signing bonus in Cubs history? Oh that’s right Ryan Harvey. Sure he didn’t make it. But imagine someone that did and our same work ethic into slow pitch softball.

The bet has been out there for 5 years. I am not sure bp alone would get a player where they need to be but you could be right.

The bet was created when people here on oldscout (may have been you) said a major leaguer could walk out on the field at osceola stadium and have a 700 onbase percentage against Resmondo.

I said I bet 1k they can’t.

Yes if major leaguers played softball as much as Harvey I would lose the bet.

True story about being humbled, my first or second summer out of high school we got word of a Sunday softball league a town about 20 mins away. We threw together the best baseball players/athletes our age we could get and went there the first Sunday thinking we were gonna destroy a bunch of old men. Our first game we played a bunch of 40 year olds. We score 2 in the top of the first and thought this was going to be easy. I think we went to bat in the top of the 2nd down 21-2...

I have told this story before, our D team in 1993 picked up a guy who was fresh out of AAA where he played CF.

He was like 6’2 235 looked more like a linebacker. He was by far the most talented player anywhere we went he was the fastest player in the tournament, best arm, and by far the most powerful.

He quit half way through the season with a .455 onbase percentage. He did lead the team in homers with 6.

And he dropped a lot of balls in the outfield.

Softball is just different and takes an adjustment period.

DW, we have a young guy from PR, weighs 137 pounds. I think he could easily win the 1 out of 10 HR bet on a 300 foot field. We are in Ohio, we could make it happen

a 140 lb dude could easily hit a softball 300 feet if it was 50 degrees out

It is a bet. Whatever the conditions are is what they are.

This bet is 8 years old. I originally made the challenge on the old softballcenter message board

I don’t believe it would be easy and i don’t believe there are grown men that play softball that weigh 140 pounds. I am sure there are a few though.

I've said before and I'll say again..........it used to take a grown ass man to hit a ball 300 feet, so I do get where the idea comes from. 140 lbs is average for hs soph tho, not a grown up.

I am not worried about losing the bet. Would be good fun to see someone win it.

Im gonna need more then $100 to lose enough weight to get down to 140 lbs and win your bet to be able to afford the food to get back to current weight lol... I will however get a video for you documenting someone 140 lbs or under hitting a home run on a 300...

Has to be done in the first 10 swings with a classic M ball and a 220 bat that tests at 220 or a 240 bat that tests at 240.

I'm sure there is someone out there.
