Should Major Challenge Cup teams be able to pick players from multiple states in their region?

Some states have zero Major and Watch list players. Some states have 15 or more.

It should be based on # of registered teams per state/per class in a given year as to whether that state is eligible to combine with another state for the Challenge Cup.

No. It’s not a majors only tournament, it’s just the highest level of play. There is no AA, A, or B challenge cup but their are some really good players at those levels that should be allowed to play.

Maybe they should call it a conference challenge cup and not major, so that they would include all conference guys from an area and not try to have 10-12 major level players

Its simple. It should be a state only thing. There were teams there last weekend that finished way higher than some expected. Doesn't matter how many Major players you have. Team Ohio was loaded, and we sucked. Takes away from the concept of this event, but North Carolina basically having a part in 3 times was stupid.

On the flip side if its state only and lets say you are Kyle Pearson and you move to Rhode Island. You most likely would never get to play in the Challenge Cup again.

But maybe that is ok although it seems exclusionary.

Split up a couple huge states..ie... split california in have at Fresno.... Split Texas as needed...then make it IN STATE ONLY.

Maybe... if you live in a state with a US census population of less then 5 million you can play for any bordering state team with less then 10 million in that state.

The Challenge Cup is a step in the right direction to move to help grow softball.

Then I guess Kyle Pearson doesn't get to play. I know this was not that big last year so the 3 states touching was just trying to get more teams involved. But not that it has grown, maybe its not for every state or maybe some states can only make a C team. The higher you go the less teams you have, but bending the rules just takes away from the concept of this event. Imagine if Ohio and Kentucky joined. Only one champion, that champion should all be from the same state, just my opinion.

I don't think there should be any issues with smaller states combining to get more people involved and participate. It is when the system is exploited by states with large populations combining that isn't necessary. States like Ohio, Florida, Cali, NC, etc are always going to be able to field great teams purely based on population.

Only in the event of RI or some obscure region with no big softball should it be allowed... NY/PA/NJ and NC/GA are pretty heavily populated and have good softball programs. If you dont have 12-13 major players thats where the A and AA players come in...

No. If a state doesn’t have a certain amount of players for a certain class they either don’t field a team or lower players move up, doesn’t change their rating, to play that level.

If it was just 1 division and each team had to divide the team up by like 2 or 3 players from each class. Excluding E players this would be kind of fun game on the line and a D player has to hit or you got a stud major player on the bench to pinch hit for him.

Posting relevant softball information on a softball site unlike kimster who just posts things that bring down others and posts that never have any actual content.

Whats interesting is I used to post Major softball content and polls when you ran the site. Never heard any complaints then.

USSSA should dictate which states can combine based on population/usssaparticipation. Don't let the states or directors decide.

In the Major class its not crazy to think that they could already have a list of teams that can play and then it's up to those states to fill in the rosters.

2 D players
3 C players
4 B and up players in the lineup

Should only be allowed for certain states/regions. There are more people in North Carolina then there are in states like RI/NH/DE. Teams like Georgia and North Carolina abuse this rule, when it’s made for teams like RI/MA/NH to be formed.
