could Challenge Cup turn into a stand alone program?

There many ways this could be a great addition to softball

just one concept

1 Tighten up roster rule a little better

2 run in state Challenge Cup Conference all season

3 five events... top % of points awarded teams earn a berth to Challege Cup Worlds

4 each state gets to pick one all star team from all tourney player award winners from in state challenge cup tourneys

5 challenge cup teams winning enough points play friday saturday and sunday morning if needed

6 Challenge Cup World Series is played sunday through monday night

This style event should be increased....It should not be a one off winter bbq thing

agree, never could happen. I agree they need to tighten up the roster rule a little bit better but I think they are getting there as the event grows. It's harder the upper divisions.

But there are too many variables that come into play when you try say that all tourney player award make up the team. I also don't think there is that much interest there in the long run. Ultimately it's a fun 1 time tourney to represent the state and play with some guys you don't play with all the time see and see some friends. It's really just a warm up tourney.

I am just saying...the challenge cup would head softball back towards what grew softball and made it the number one rev sport in the past

I am not taking sides right now but I’m just curious in this day and age in year 2021 what is considered the number one recreational sport?

If I had to guess I would guess golf.

The fastest growing sport is Lacrosse.

Softball had its day. Now its more of a lifestyle for a niche set of us.

There is no way the golf is more popular then softball at least not in my region

I can get a tee time anytime I want at any golf course I want in Norcal that’s because it’s anywhere from $75-$200 to play Monday through Friday unless you want to go in the middle of nowhere

Offers a very expensive sport diehards are spending anywhere from 1000 to 1500 for their clubs I am playing multiple times a month

Softball is way cheaper even if you’re playing in a handful of leagues and weekends

I do see is growing his CrossFit competitions, extreme sports like paintball laser tag mountain biking motorcycle riding etc.

If I wanna go off the extreme on the opposite side of the spectrum I’m going to say virtual gaming is probably the flavor of the month and has been for the last 5+ years

I think softball is STILL the number one adult team sport/hobby. But..the game needs help to grow again.

As a participation recreational sport for adults in America...it beats

serious hiking
golf
water skiing
bowling
tennis
basketball
baseball
kickball
pickle ball

This program is growing every year and will turn into a State Conference program with multiple Florida worlds and world series dates for each division.

The State Challenge Cup Conference and State CCC World Series program will bring hundreds more teams to Florida.

The Challenge Cup is a great idea.
It was first ran 10-15 years ago by NSA by some guy in Indiana.
Believe they went to Florida with it. Indiana did win the 1st one in I think Panama. It was small. It died out for some reason.

USSSA's is 30 times bigger.
Yes, it can stand alone now.

Tim, you are still missing the point of this tourney and trying to make it into something it will never be. let's go over your list:

1)this is a must because we know that every state director can manipulate the system, so the PRV's need to be shown

2) this will never happen as every team has a full schedule of weekend play all year so to ask these players to play more and take more time away from work and family when that is hard enough as it is, as Randy Moss would say COME ON MAN

3) see response to # 2

4) we are already picking 1 team from each state based on the captains, coaches and also input from each state director and some umpires so hopefully each state is picking that years "best" players at that level

5) I don't understand this comment at all. It's a tourney, you play when the bracket is telling you!?!?!?

6) Sunday through Monday night, which means guys would be away from work and family even more. Again with Randy Moss COME ON MAN

The increase in the number of teams just goes to show you how well this was run last year that more states got involved which caused this chaos with having to play 24 hours a day. Stro already said that next year it will be broken down on a couple weekends so teams aren't playing through the night.

As a dad of 2 female college lacrosse players, I can attest that lacrosse is growing fast, but participation numbers still dont rival the numbers of softball because lacrosse is still a regional sport in a large majority of the country...

you do understand a HUGE majority of teams are fully self
sponsored or close to it.

how many players playing the challenge cup are not getting paid, are covering all, most of, or a lot of their travel?

Oh... that’s right... you have very little experience when players
paid those own way or cover much of their travel.

I think this post shows the biggest problem with softball right now...

F the money sponsors... think of the average player instead...then again....you don’t follow the average softball player do you...it’s that small 3% of softball players you only care about.

Youth does. Non-existent in adults. Its slowly receding in popularity here because parents are figuring out all of that fighting for D1 scholarships to eastern schools isn't worth the hassle.
