Twin creeks (Sunnyvale Cali) was the hot bed for the Peninsula, East Bay and San Jose Area players and teams in the 80's to the early 2000's. If you were a tournament team you could enter their leagues with no (Non resident fees), all the local city leagues in the South, East, North (Redwood City, San Mateo, Oakland, San Jose, etc..) all required players to live in their towns, if the players resided outside then you paid more $$$. |
Twin Creeks became the hotbed for not only company league teams, coed, drunk teams but also serious (A to C teams) tourney teams that wanted to get their players together prior to tourney weekends.
It was a great place to have weekly team meetings, BP in the cages, Beers/Pizza in the bar, etc... You'd have players travel 30 - 50 miles just to play league.
Plus when you were done with your league game you could jump on other league teams that were short players. I've heard of players regularly getting in 5 games in one night all the time.
There is an urban legend that Willie Rodriguez at one time was playing in 17 leagues simultaneously at Twin Creeks (10 leagues) and various cities around the bay area. Have to remember twin creeks had 10 fields with games running from 5:20 to 11:30 nightly Six days a week.
Long story short you'd never see a City league team or a Sunday to Wednesday (Twin Creeks) league team enter tourneys....... They'd just get killed by all the teams even it was an E tourney.
I am sure it's the same way in So.Cal and the old Yard, Poway, Quakes, Big 8, etc... pre Big League dreams
