Many good points here; my opinion: |
As stated, need to focus on what the other associations do and TRY to do it better/different to be successful?
Ex. ISSA on East Coast has started to use online rosters but are not as stringent about moving teams up so you get the “sandbagging” effect. They hit the better ball (for the most part outside of Vegas) but they do not focus on the 40 division.
SSUSA on West Coast is stricter with rosters, their ball not as good as ISSA (but better that it was) and do not have online scoring updates which seems to be a big issue lately (esp. with ISSA using Quick Scores). As stated, Tim is doing a very good job growing the 40 program in his area.
Key is that BOTH use mostly 3 day tourney’s, 2 play in games and then either double elim (ISSA) or 3 GG (SSUSA).
Takeaways – The consensus with “younger” teams (40 – 50, some 55) is that we still work and that MOST tourneys are 3 days and don’t need to be, esp with some smaller divisions and smaller tourneys. When you have multiple divisions (AA, AAA, M and M+) and add in the ages per, then you have scheduling issues to make these 2 day tourneys, esp for the “older” guys (over 60 since playing at night not the best idea if lights aren’t good).
If the focus was on the things I mentioned, like consolidating divisions to make 2 day tourneys the norm except for the occasional World or big event (i.e. Smokey), then I believe you would have a chance to be more successful. I would also agree with Tim that to just focus on Conference would be "shortsighted" but some combination of the divisions might work.
Again, IMHO but good luck, it is nice to have options! :-)
