We are seeing a decline in the SWOA League from around 1000 teams to around 800 teams, now some of that may be teams aren't playing leagues anymore. What is most glaring is the decline of knothole players. It seems the kids aren't playing knothole like they used to , now it is travel or nintendo ? Not that some of the travel teams are much better than knothole teams. We had a knothole all star team win a class c travel tourney this past summer - in both girls and boys divisions. I do see girl's fastpitch up somewhat across the board but a hole in the 8-10 year old divisions is starting to occur. |
My feeling is youth sports need to stay in their season up to around 12 years old. we have 11 month basketball seasons now, 11 month softball/ baseball seasons and 9 month football seasons. We had a 10 year old boy who played travel basketball, 7 on 7 football and baseball all summer - way too much
