I've been watching and observing softball since my dad and grandpa took me to Tahoe for 4th of July at a month and a half old. From there it was anywhere from Twin Creeks, Lancaster, San Clemente, Kent, Reno, Idaho, Virginia, Concord, Minnesota, Texas, North Carolina, you name it as I grew up watching my Grandpa, Dad and Uncles play. Even got to meet the great TM60+ in person on occasion. My experience as a spectator was getting to watch them and the likes of Chris Alvarado, Greg Cannedy, Andy Alvis, Brian Greer, Larry Carter, Sandy Sandoval, Billy Messina, Sal Formosa Sr., Dennis Rulli, Dennis Mendoza, Billy Hardin, Shane DuBose and others from inside the dugout. I'm embarrassed to say there is certainly others of which I am unable to remember off hand. I got to see Macenko, AP, DD3, Cellura, Androff, Joerling, and others.
I watched a pitcher get drilled off the forehead with the old golfballs that were used and an aluminum bat for rolling the ball to first on a one hopper from my uncle. I watched a ball hit so hard at a third baseman with the same bat and ball combo that it knocked out 8 of his teeth and he put a sock in his mouth to finish the game instead of go to the hospital. Also, my uncle took one off the forehead in Utah no mask and skip the stitches.
In my 30 plus years I have watched year in and year out the effort to build the best team in the country that would take on anyone and not worry about who was in the other dugout or what that teams classification was.
I played baseball through my high school career at Bellarmine with three current major league players and two others that made the show on my travel ball team. Ultimately I hung it up because I got offered more scholarship money as a runner for college.
My softball playing career started out playing league ball with my Dad and his friends at Columbus Park, Cupertino, and Twin Creeks while I was in high school. Eventually I got invited to play on other teams at Twin Creeks and ultimately on some tournament teams. About 3-4 years ago I started sponsoring my own team and with the help of one of my good friends/teammate build our own program. We started a run at giving Conference a try last year but I had to fold up shop due to a job change. Currently, I am managing the Challenge Cup "C" team to represent Northern California. For sure not having a Conference team in 2020 but will likely play some of the West Coast ones. Swung a green bellcorp or blue worth supercell only until I started playing tournaments in my mid 20s.
So fan, player, manager, sponsor, and 30+ years of non-stop discussion other than when talking about work or hunting.
It's ok I know your softball experience so we can jump straight to the first topic you would like to discuss.
