The zone at the major level has always been extremely small. The sweet spots on aluminum bats were much also very small though. The arc rules have also contributed as they've basically disallowed the high arc pitch which was a pitchers friend back in the early days of the game as was designed.


Plastic bats will always be the biggest problem.
