I would be tracking the # of times a pitcher gets hit with the ball without getting a glove on it. Getting a glancing blow off the side of the leg vs flush matters a ton for an injury standpoint but doesn't prove one way or the other if the combo is unsafe for a pitcher.
The 44 vs the 40, the 44 is less reactive to major temp swings but when its above 75 degrees it performs as well or better than a classic M. The classic M was an issue in colder temps only.
