Another interesting thing about the black not being part of the plate. A runner from third who only touches or slides into the black can be appealed out. It’s not part of the plate for the pitch and it is not part of the plate for the purpose of scoring a run. If you don’t like the rule, try to get it changed. Until that happens, umpires are obligated to follow the rule book.
