Sorry...never had any serious fights with teams I ran.
I only played one game where punches or attempted physical contact happened.
One time a teammate charged and punched the other teams city league pitcher while he was standing on the rubber wondering “what the hell”... That pitcher was an older very nice player I had known for 20 years.
Many players on both teams had known each other for many many years.
My teammates punch missed its mark and we broke up the wrestling match and the game was called by the umpire... he walked off saying..”I don’t get paid enough o babysit idiots”.
when the city director (Dan Brown) called me the next day to ask what had happened and what I think should happen.
I told him my honest truth...
The player was roid ragging, was out of line... and should be suspended for FIVE YEARS (from our league) TO SET A STANDARD/PRESIDENT..
Almost everyone in the area knew the player... He was a very good player that flew back east for softball and played with DD3s mountain top team.
Danny suspended him for a few games.
The player was, and is a very nice and quiet man... but sometimes for the good of the league I believe examples have to be made...and...yes... I do believe if he wasn’t all roided up he never would have acted that way.
What happened... no one that knew the player would ever belief it... because he was as easy going as anyone I ever played with. And in hindsight he still doesn’t believe he did it.
I am sure the same can be said about many of the ped boys actions in the conference..Because I do believe PED use can make some players much more aggressive.
Side note.... That teammate this story is about played with Andy Purcell’s college baseball team.
