Big fields create less home runs forcing players to base hit. Small fields create bad home runs swings forcing players to base hit. The middle has always been and will always be th easiest place to get a hit in softball.
5 man creates 2 holes in the infield and both gaps are open so hitters are forced to hit though the pitcher rather than beside him or driver 5/6 or 3/4 holes.
1-1 no foul forces batters to hit towards the middle of the field rather than work lines.
4 man defense
1-1 with a foul
I’m over 40 and the fields have gotten bigger, bases longer, and the competition younger. No way amateur athlete's should be required to compete on MLB size fields.
Softball aka underhand baseball.
Softball peaked during the 80s and 90s, apply rules that worked during that peak and hopefully provide more safety and growth.
For DW or any 50+ players, more injuries/middle shots back in the day on 300ft fields, 4man defense, aluminum bats or today on baseball fields, 5man, and composite bats?
Other than pulls/strains and common injuriesI’ve seen more severe injuries by position players making defensive plays than I have pitchers getting carted off the field after being shotgunned by a batter.
