Re: Can a AA Team Ever Win The Majors
I think we were allowed to have either 4 or 6 major players. Major teams had unlimited. Doug Berfeldt was a major player. USSSA considered us a AA team. We played AA all year. Probably 10 A/AA tournaments and 5 or 6 AA/major. I always thought that the good AA teams were made For the stadiums. All the real good AAs had great pitching, defense and a combination of base hitters and power. The stadiums gave us more confidence against the Majors. Plus having Birdy didn’t hurt. Our goal for all those years was to win the USSSA and ISA AAs and be a pain in the ass to the majors.
Back then the number of teams was so much higher than it is today.
USSSA Major and ASA Super teams. 6-8 teams
USSSA AA. 28 teams
ASA Major 36 teams
USSSA A. 90 teams
ASA A. 100teams
All ASA A, Major, USSSA A and AA were played on the same weekend. Add them up and that’s just south of 260 teams playing above Class A. The good ol,days.
