Dan as a pitcher, I here your frustration. I believe a strike is a strike. Don’t matter where the batter is, in the box. A mat would make the umpire job simple. Just make sure the release point is at the right height and doesn’t go over 10ft from the ground and bingo. And for the record, I believe the 10ft height has actually went up. (Been enforced better) Back a couple of years ago if it went over 8’ it was a ball and it didn’t matter where it landed. In all honesty why hasn’t the mat be used.
