Re: FL Duel Turned Into A Back Yard BBQ on Sat Instead of a Conf Event
We were scheduled to play at 10pm Friday night, our game got moved to 11:30pm to keep it moving. We had to wait on the loser of Resmondo/Cheap Suits which was in the stadium and probably a game and a half behind. We finished at 4am or a little later. We had our SS go down with a bad shoulder injury on a diving play. That wasn't the cause of late games or anything like that, it was the cause of a kid busting his ass for his team, sponsor and himself to make a play because everyone out there are 100% competitors. We go to the Dual knowing it is a grueling 4 day tournament and if you lose a game it can be pure hell. Look at TDB last year, 19 games in 3 1/2 days. They didn't come on here crying about it, so why in the world would anyone else. Everyone talks about how great softball was "back in the day"(80s/90s). Guess what, those tournaments started Friday night, ran non-stop and ended late Sunday night. I know because I was one of the little shits running around chasing HRs and sleeping in a lounge chair between step-dad's games. If you need your 8 hours of sleep to play this game, Conference definitely isn't for you. As far as games running behind in the Stadium, it is a much bigger field and area of play. When a ball goes in the gap, it is different than any other field. It takes longer to get on and off the field at the stadium. It is a good walk from the stadium to any other field. The time in between games can definitely be sped up which they did when they could by getting the coin toss out of the way. All in all, the Dual was a great event as always just like any Conference event. Things can always improve and we cant thank DW enough for what he does for this game. And a huge thanks to Strojan for answering the call at 3:30am and bringing us ice within minutes of the injury.
