You can hear someone saying something like that when all of this starts heating up. After Drilling does a fake soccer flop.
The first time I heard that line Charlie’s Wright yelled it across the field at Vircus. and he went WWF crazy.
usually the “ biggest softball batboy” thing hurt when it was true and the player was not in the lineup. And IT ALWAYS GOT A CHUCKLE FROM THE CROUD.
When Wright yelled it at Vircus I think Vircus had a shoulder injury.. But he still got real mad.
But...If Williams was not in the line up..Calling him a cheerleader or bat boy was meant to get under his skin and get a big laugh from anyone within ear shot and out of punching range or hearing range of Williams or Vircus.
On other ocassions I heard Rich’s players ask..hey ump.. doesn’t a player have to be playing in the game to be out of the dugout? or....Since 50 is on the bench shouldn’t he be made to sit on it like a good bat boy for his safety?
