1) the world
2) a tahoe drive to july 4th tourney
3) every other year a drive to LA for the state finals
***we played 15-16 tourneys..and spent about $2,000 on uniforms and such...
and...most of our funding came from running our own tournaments..field prep, concessions
when we moved to AA we averaged about $30,000 per year..no meal money, and the players paid for their own rental cars and 1/2 of the room if they brought someone along.
towards the end of our playing days..many of the players also helped sponsor in some manner as much as possible..I would always put up between $7,000-$12,000 others..a few others... matched me a few of the years.
A good story and I am sure Donny D 3 doesn’t remember it but.. towards the very end of our playing days (many of us were pushing, or over 40 years old) I got married during the season.
At the world series that year, Donny f3 filled in (more or less he stared for us).
Before our second game while at BP I let the team know that now that I had new responsibilities I wasn’t going to be able to help out as much next year financially and it will most likely mean we will not have the funds to have a team.
During batting practice while Donny am I shagged bp together..one by one, about three players came
up and volunteered to help cover the team..
I looked at Donny and said something like... Donny, at some point you most likely will be running USSSA and I hope you remember this (local players helping sponsor a regional AA team) and your experiences with Michigan softball and will
work to keep this type of thing possible.
I don’t know if Donny 3 understood what I was trying to share with him...but...what I was trying to tell him is..don’t less upper level ball turn into mercenary nationalized softball..
This was most likely the season after his Dad (a donny jr) out worked me at the convention to make it easier for nationized teams to destroy the AA, A and B divisions.
I guess what I am saying is...comparing nationized..compared to regionalized, or localized teams from the past compared to now..is comparing apples to oranges..
