I will admit..I had some very good tourneys but I never was a top player at the Major level and was only a good hitter as a first base/cather/ah at the AA level but..then again... I was up against a lot of great Big men trying to compete at those positions weighing in at about 210’pounds without being able to bench press my weight on many occasions I was fighting above my weight class.
Your saying on “never beens” was one of a Gary Adams (our pitchers) best saying... his other one was...Tim..you know what speed get us with the rodents that play outfield for us? It gets them back to the dugout faster then our real
hitters after they make an out hitting. (Gary was one of our top hitters and retired holding the official batting average record at the Major World Series).
As for my game now...last year I kinda sucked..I hit a little
over 700 in 40 majors or 50 major Plus..then again..I had taken about 6 or 7 rounds of BP over the last five years so it was my own fault.
I played 60 plus also but I do not count the stats in that..60 guys don’t move too well so hitting is real easy. and yes...even in 60s I don’t field well.
40 major was the most enjoyable level I have played in 15 years...pure fun competing against the kids..some of them actually called me Mr. I had unending fun messing with them either at 1b or catcher.
In one tourney a guys from of one of your grand dads teams
was their to watch his son play.. I was playing first base when the father I had played against as he was a paid worker for DS (because of his softball prowess) walked up.. I yelled hey Boomer (don presley)..he yelled back..nice to see you Tim.
When the next hitter got to first base he asked..how do you know Boomer? I said I used to play against him when he was one of the big power hitters in norcal.
He looked at me and asked..Sir, how old ARE? when I said over sixty he said..that’s what I was wondering but I didn’t think it was possible..I asked him how old he was and he said 39...my reply was...so do you have any older siblings? he said yes and I said..so I am most likely old enough to be all their dads..for sure if they were born after 1976.. he said why 76 and I said that’s when I started getting lucky with the girls.
softball for me has been a lifetime of fun and it just saddens on the shape of the game today
