So that is 8 'A' teams in Cleveland alone.
And they all played league together.
So yes it was a different time and it is the advent of the tournament only teams that started the demise of softball because then players would jump from team to team every year and the best team in each city would get the 3 best center fielders and the 3 best shortstops on one team. Where in previous years the 3 best centerfielders and 3 best shortstops would all play on 3 or more separate teams.
But the quest for a world title broke up the league teams and then that started happening at B then C then D.
Hard to put that genie back in the bottle unless you forced tournament teams to be league teams.
