Re: Dale..loooooong reply..
Tim, this has been said over and over and over, but people just aren't playing softball the way it used to be. I started in the late 80's and every town around my area had leagues playing every night of the week. The town I started in had men's, women's, coed, 16" Monday thru Friday. Now that same town has a men's league on Monday nights that is lucky to get 6-8 teams. 5 nights a week with 75+ teams to 1 night of less than 10. Some of the teams moved to a neighboring town, but that town is in the same boat. 5 nights a week down to 3 nights and 1 of those nights has less than 10 teams. Now take those numbers and translate them to weekend ball.....why are you the only one not seeing this like the rest of us. There is nothing that HQ can do to increase league/weekend numbers. If people don't want to play, they just won't. I 1st started playing weekend ball with my league team, in the early 90's. In Illinois back then, our D state had 120 teams, C state had 40+, B state had 12-15. I would love to see numbers like that again at every level, but it isn't happening. The conference isn't hurting local ball at all because the handful of guys who might play local, where would they play if there wasn't a conference? You are not allowed to play more then 1 level below your ranking, so who cares about the conference. Sorry to babble, but beating this same dead horse week in and week out is a waste of time. I enjoy reading your posts as you truly have a wealth of knowledge, but the days that we grew up playing in are over. Something that we all have to deal with. At some point our bodies are going to breakdown and you can't weekend D ball even, let alone SR ball.
