Your front foot is the only foot allowed to stride and be ahead of the plate when contact is made. If you back foot crossing the front of the plate and you make contact YOU ARE OUT!! I agree that the 8-10' high pitches that cross correctly need to be called more often. I also pitch in addition to being an ump and anytime I see someone set up that far up when I am pitching, I try to keep it as close to 10' and have it drop behind the point as that is a very hard pitch to hit with any type of control. I wish they would just make the rule that your front foot can't be any further than the front of the plate when you set up and then when you stride to hit, that is fine. That would make it easier to call the higher strikes and 1 less thing we have to watch for when we ump. To many things to watch for in a matter of a few seconds, did it hit 3', then glance down to look at the back foot, look up after that to judge fair and foul......a lot going on
