Best trick I was taught for ten feet is stand under a regulation basketball rim, then grab a 34” softball bat raise it as high as you can and see how close your are to ten feet. Then you will actually know where ten feet is at any point during a game. You can hold the bat up high and say this is 9 feet 6 inches, or whatever the height might be for that particular umpire.
