i think what tim is trying to say is that in the video is where he puts a ball on a bat and puts it at 10 feet the umpire standing 50, as if over the pitchers head, away will take that and create his vantage point, however the ball will not be at 10 feet 50 feet away, the pitch will hit its 10 ft from the ground point somewhere in the middle between mound and plate, say 25 feet away.
if you want to maybe find the best vantage point, its not to find 10 foot at the pitchers mount to gauge, it is to find 10ft about 25 feet from home plate to create the vantage point. the umpire is in a fixed position where as the ball is moving and needs to be gauged in different spot, not from the pitching mound.
