Re: the floating rubber goes from 50-56 why is anyone talking about 53
I didn't say it couldn't be done and yes someone could take 2 steps back and get to 60' if they were toeing the 56' spot. Problem I see when I am playing, there is never a box on the ground and the umps NEVER call a pitcher for being to far away. Since USSSA doesn't use a verbal illegal call like ASA, as a batter you are at the judgement of the ump if he is seeing the same thing you are. If they truly decide to go with this box full time, they need to have a better way of marking it as those lines on dirt fields disappear rather quick. Turf would be easier as you can paint the box down. It will never happen until someone gets so seriously injured and that would be the wrong time to make a change. I am game for moving it to 53'. I am a firm believer in having the batters back in the box to where they can't have their front foot in front of the plate to start. It can be inline with the front of the plate only. When they stride, they will step towards the pitcher and be in front and that is fine. I believe that will help as well with making pitching safer by making that a rule. That will then allow for the closer to 10' pitch called a strike more as it will cross the batter and plate more clearly for everyone to see. Thoughts???
