Total US population in 1990 ages 5-17 35.5 million
Total US population in 2018 that played youth baseball and softball 25 million.
It is my assumption that in 1990 not all 35.5 mil played youth baseball or softball so my guess is.. there are actually more, or at the very least, as many youth 5–17 playing baseball and softball as there was in 1990.
So the future potential softball pool is about the same as it was in 1990... obviously this doesn’t take into account the pool of adult difference between 1990 and 2019...but..
The youth participation number of potential soon to be adult softball players is around the same as it was in 1990...
I would guess the number of softball players has dwindled way below the potential once youth ball players percentage drop.
The decline of the adult game is was out of scale/scope compared to youth particiapation numbers.
The number one question that should be asked at a SOFTBALL CONVENTION IS...to use a Biden gaff ..a four letter word..
