Re: Should there be a usssa convention meeting on what has caused softballs decline and what can be done
TM60, give it a rest already. The National office has ZERO control wants happens in local leagues. That is up to the individual park districts to push their programs. I am an ump and live in the chicagoland area and have played for a long time too. There has been a HUGE decline in teams over the last 5-10 years in all of the leagues I work in. 3 of the towns don['t even offer adult softball anymore as no one was signing up. 2 of my most popular towns to play in, had teams playing every night of the week. 1 of those towns is down to 4 nights but 2 of the nights only has 4 teams in it, which is way down. The other town that always had a lot of teams had 2 nights where all 4 fields were playing 5 games a night and now 3 of the fields are down to only 3 games and 1 field is 4 games. Kids are not playing softball anymore. You will get a group every once in awhile, but it is on a big decline. The 80's and 90's hey day is over and there is no getting it back to those days. Park districts would rather deal with kids baseball and softball than a bunch of whining adult softball players too.
