Not sure I said what you claimed I said. So, let me state what I did say here.
- I think Floating Rubber is an ambiguous term for the Pitcher's Area, (which remains constant). A mat used for home plate doesn't make it a "Floating Plate".
- I never said upper level umpires will be confused. It may come as a surprise to you that I deal with USSSA baseball, fastpitch and slowpitch umpires, not just the Conference. I do believe there exists some inconsistencies in the application of the 2x6 pitcher's area across the country.
- I think the two sets of rules, Rubber v Pitcher's Area comes from the Conference attempting to stay true to traditional rules. I know that sounds like double talk because we have pitcher's runners, 10 fielders, 2 on deck hitters etc. but pitching from the rubber is "Old School" Tradition.
