I did a proof-of-concept of forum software from Discourse (https://www.discourse.org/). It's the same software that runs all of the StackExchange sites if you're familiar.
It supports logged in and anonymous users which I think is the big deal with the current boardhost software you run.
Below is a link to how to enable banners/ads in whatever theme you select.
