In my opinion the top 10 teams in the world do not need 3 classes. (you forgot 2 A teams). But you are being blinded by Tim's misdirection and allowing him to confuse you into believing his nonsense.
For the millionth time CONFERENCE softball has no player limits. It is literally bring the best collective group of players you can. However, certain teams decide not to and instead restrict their roster in effort to play a lesser world tournament that they believe they can win. Tim feels sorry for these teams and thinks its unfair to them. If a C team plays a D tournament they are forced to spot runs as they have played down to a lesser level. If a D team jumps in a C tournament then you play by C rules. By that logic if you want to play CONFERENCE then you play by those rules. It is in fact a MAJOR program without any point restrictions. But some teams are afraid to build the best team they can and want to go chase a lesser ring at the end of the season.
If on a teams budget the best lineup they can put together is classed A and they want to play CONFERENCE, then shoot your shot. But know you might play an AA or Major team. No different than if an E team enters a C tournament.
Personally I would like to see two classification levels nationwide, Novice and Open. Have a limit to the number of teams that go to Worlds. If there is no roster restrictions across the entire country then nobody has the incentive to sandbag and will build the best team they can, be it locally or bringing players in.
I know for my team, we'll play any team of any classification any time. I'm not saying we will win but we'll lace em up against anyone.
