I do not have access to enter rosters on the USA site. I will get to them today and post on my site, gosoftball.com.
I do a lot of stuff at tournaments. I try to stream the games but it isnít exactly a real high priority. I fielded a litany of complaints over that. The stream is a one man project. I wish I could afford to have one person announcing games and posting a score every inning. If you know me I am softball lovin rube.
As it concerns player ratings we try to hit a January 1 target date so teams can start making plans and building rosters for their season. We review all of the conference rosters and drop them into a google sheet. Some of you have access to this and have seen the work we do. We look at successes or there lack of and independently add ratings to those that are missing and tweak some of the existing players.
We donít like to bump teams in the middle of the year. Plans are made and it doesnít seem fair to alter those. You also have the right to appeal your player rating. That deadline is July 31.
Can we do better? Sure we can. We try to do better and more every year. Now that my last child is out of the house and my wife travels 70% of the week I intend to do more with my free time. I expect compensation will continue to be at the rate of a subway sandwich artist.
What I witnessed this weekend and the weeks leading into the tournament was a lot of complaints about 1 or 2 teams. Those teams found themselves in the losers bracket early. One dropped by a team made up of kids from Sioux Falls. The final eight teams were made up of area teams that for the most part get together every other weekend and battle.
Give credit where credit is due. There are a load of really good players in this area that none of you gave a chance because they donít play in the conference. They donít need to. They have it good here. A $6500 fee doesnít make you a good team. You guys think youíre the only show in town. Lots of group think around here. And good for you and the conference. I am jealous. We have our own conference. Only there is no cost.
Would I love for ASA to have a series of qualifiers across the country? GD right. But I am only the commissioner in Minnesota and no one is willing to cut me loose to build this thing up. So I do what I can where I am allowed to and with those that want to be involved with me.
You should make a point to play some ball in my area once. We have at good events all the time. At most of them softball seems secondary or tertiary. We have parties with some softball. You call them carney tourneys. We play hard and party with each other. The way Softball was back in the glory days. We have fans at our tournaments. We have bands. We even have pro wrestling. Hell we had firehouse and warrant 2 weekends ago. Itís a good time. Iíll take a Carney tourney any day of the week. Come play here once. Youíll see.
Donít cry about the rosters before you come here, the teams in these parts arenít well known and might just beat your conference team.
Thanks for playing ball with us. We hope you come back.
