Consistent Schedule Conflict

I wanted to see if anyone else has a consistent conflict/pullout type thing in the spring semester. As we are now, I will have to have kids pulled out during that time, leading up to UIL for One-Act Play. 2 years ago, this was like once a week, then their competition was like an entire week of those kids being gone. For reference, that was half of our group. Is this something normal? Is it possible to prepare for Concert/Sight-reading with that? I have no idea.

I deal with this constantly. Not just One Act Play, but Ag competitions. I'm lucky enough that our region provides an early contest date as well as the one in April. If I attend the early contest, I avoid many of those conflicts.

Ok. I've always felt real iffy about kids being pulled during class time. I've been lucky that not a lot are gone for ag. I just didn't know if this was normal

It can vary from district to district. One school where I worked, we took off the entire week for the county fair because so many of our kids were showing animals...AND if the district shuts down for a week, NP/NP doesn't count for that week (yes, most people don't know that AG is affected by NP/NP...even many AG teachers don't know that).

My school is fortunate to do One Act Play practice after school, though we go through those schedule conflicts with kids that show animals. I'll typically see them once or twice a week because they'll travel to San Antonio or Austin to show, and they already spent thousands on the animal at the start so their parents will never allow them to quit on that.

...on top of that, when a kid sells an animal, that is a considerable amount of money that the kid can use for college costs...especially if the animal is Grand Champion or Reserve Grand Champion.

Depends. Grand Champion and Reserve GC are going to command the largest prices. IIRC, I had a student whose bull was Reserve GC, and it sold for $10K. It also depends on what the buyer is willing to pay, so there really is no set value other than GC and RGC will be the largest sales.
