3A/1C Staff Numbers

Greetings,

I am currently teaching at a 3A high school that has a 1C junior high feeder. For similar size schools that have 3 or more staff members, what are your numbers grade 6 thru 12? We are currently a 2 person staff trying to add a 3rd director and just wanting to see how our program compares number wise to similar size schools that have 3 or more directors. 3A (div 1 football). 3 directors. 105 in high school. 162 in junior high. We have 3 beginner periods, 2 classes each period.

1. HS Winds
2. HS Percussion
3. HS Jazz
4. Beginner Flute & Percussion
5. JH Varsity
6. JH Non-Varsity
7. Beginner Low Brass & Trumpet
8. Beginner Sax/Clarinet & Horns

3A (football division 1) high school, 1C middle school, 210 students in the program from grades 6-12. Three directors: HS head, MS head, full time assistant. Used to be two full time assistants until the previous MS head director retired.

We are on the smaller side of 3a,
but 6-12 we have 226 in band program.
The schedule dictates the 3rd director. 3 beginner classes, 2 jh concert bands, 1 hs band period and 2 applied music classes.

I think the majority of schools that size are one man show situations. Having a second director is already an enormous luxury.

If you want a third person who may be able to assist, find a percussionist willing to work as a para, perhaps?

I'm not quite sure if you're in an odd area, but it's more likely to have 3 or more directors in a large number of 3As at this point. We have two directors, and I have made some unsuccessful attempts at getting a third. One person shows in 3A are non-existent in my region at least. Even a large number of 2As have two more directors.

You'd probably think wrong...most 3A's I see have at least 2 directors, many have 3. This is coming from a 3A head director who has been in my current job for 10 years and did a lot of research when we added a 3rd position.
