Alright, I am currently a 2A/1C one man show. I was just offered a head position at a 3C MS with two assistants.
Where I'm at now, the fall is consumed with marching and all that goes with it. That covers my 8-12 group. Obviously the 6th graders are starting up. I've used the fall for the 7th graders to "review" the things they learned the year before, and work on the unified region band music and then work up the Christmas music.
Obviously, I will be consulting with my new assistants, but I would like to know from you veteran 3C directors is is there anything else I should be planning for the NV and V bands for the fall? What else should I focus on, what techniques should I make sure get taught (these are sweepstakes bands)?
TIA

Pep rallys, football games, possible soccer games whenever those are, and volleyball. Region. All city. I used the blue foundations book to build technique. Got my little NV band back in the day to a sweepstakes. They said sight reading was easy after learning those thirds patterns and other scale techniques in the book. Would sight read periodically for my own practice as well as theirs. They get familiar with "SR" and it's not so intimidating. It still is, but less because they know how it'll go and what to expect.
