Warm up on stage

I thought the C&CR allowed for a warm up on stage before you are announced but can't actually find in for the concert portion. It is listed on the sight reading part though. Any thoughts? Is this still allowed? Like a short 8 measure chorale or scale?

I do Remingtons on Concert F and a short articulation drill so they get a feel for the room.

I’ve judged UIL contests where in between every selection just about every band played a few notes. Chorales, individual warm ups, and even hit a few spots. Weird, but there wasn’t an issue.

This year I did a 4 chord progression to help set the tonality and balance of my slow piece after the march.

I was told we were not allowed to play anything from our concert selections during our on stage warmup. In years past I would always start the band then walk around the auditorium to see if balance was off at the venue.

You SHOULD do some sort of warm up on stage even if it is just a few notes. You should get a feel for balance and how the room is different and be ready to adjust. There is nothing worse than feeling great about your performance, but you have that one clarinet or tenor saxophone sticking out the entire time!

I also advocate for having staff in the audience almost live produce the performance and communicate with the conductor because what you hear on the podium isn't always the truth!
