Our small boosters are wondering if it is worth the hassle to get this or not? Does anyone have any experience?

An easier way to get it is through ParentBooster USA. They will help your boosters with the paperwork and then you are a subsidiary 501c3 through them, as long as you keep up with it. It's faster than going on your own and easier to deal with for non-accountant/banker treasurers.

It is an incredible investment of time and isn't cheap - but it's absolutely the way to go since the IRS changed the laws about twenty years ago regarding DBA a 501c3 for school organizations. You'll need an actual financial expert to help you.
