It's been a few years since I've rehearsed it with a band but I remember having a hard time getting some of the balancing issues worked out during sections when the woodwinds take over the melodic lines. Being a 2A school then presumably your spring semester is full of days where you'll have kids missing for other extracurriculars which is really the hardest thing about working balance issues.
Some of the trumpet countermelodic lines can tend to stick out due to where and how they are written. I didn't always give these the attention they needed since it wasn't a melodic part so be sure to emphasize tone, especially on those entrances (on a 4 line D, I believe) that occur after a rest. Kids will tend to pinch these pitches.
